INSTALLATION GUIDE

INSTALLING STYLING STICKERS KIT
Customer Installation Disclaimer: Signature Custom Designs makes every effort to ensure that all of our pre-cut kits have been rechecked for fitment on each specific make and model advertised. However, a “professional quality” installation does require some acquired knowledge and mechanical ability, for which Signature Custom Design  cannot be responsible. We will provide instructions and tools with your order, and can provide assistance via telephone or e-mail correspondence.
INSTALLING THE PAINT PROTECTIVE FILM

Due to each kit’s size, complexity, and general PITA factor, the complete paint protection kits are best installed by professionals. However, it can be done by those customers who are mechanically inclined, patient, and have an extra person for help with handling the large pieces of film. We include installation instructions with your order, and, if problems or questions arise during your installation, you can call us – our customer service associates would be happy assist you.

AIR OR WATER BUBBLES

Once the vinyl fully cures, most imperfections will disappear completely.  Small scratches, trapped moisture, and most bubbles will dissipate on their own. However, if you encounter a stubborn bubble, you can poke it with a sewing needle and push out the air or water. The hole will eventually close on its own. Creases/ripples arising from installation will also settle over time.

BEST AMBIENT TEMPERATURE

For best application results, wrapping films should be applied in a controlled environment when the surface and ambient temperatures are between 18°-24°C (65°-75°F). Colder temperatures will result in the material feeling more rigid and the adhesive less tacky. Warmer temperatures will result in the material feeling more aggressive and pliable. Newly applied graphics should remain in the application environment for at least 24 hours to promote uniform adhesion characteristics. During this 24 hour period, you should periodically apply multiple cycles of heat and pressure over the potential problem areas of the wrap. This will allow you to change the material’s flat memory to the new curved memory and allows the graphic to stay put. This should be done anywhere from 3-6 times if not more during this 24 hour period. The worst thing you can do is to drive the motorcycle immediately after you have completed the installation. A significant change in temperature should always be avoided during the first 24 hours after the application is complete, as this may result in the material lifting or popping up in recesses and other complex curved areas.

CLEANING PROPERLY BEFORE APPLICATION

Cleaning the application surface properly is one of the most important steps to a good application. Wash and dry the motorcycle thoroughly. Wipe the application area and a large area around it with a solvent-based cleaner, wiping dry as you work. Wipe again with a 2:1 mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and water, wiping dry as you work.

MASKING TAPE FOR ALIGNMENT

Always use masking tape to mark alignment. Do not use a grease pencil. Its waxy core becomes embedded in the film’s texture and attempting to remove it may damage the texture.

USINGS SQUEEGEE

The unique finishes on vinyl are sensitive to installation scratches and require careful handling during installation. We recommend using a high density felt squeegee or covering the edge of it. Another option is to use a squeegee with suede or nylon wrapped edge.

HEAT GUN

Use a heat gun or a hair blower, not a torch, for heating the film. Heat the film only with a heat gun or a hair blower- never a torch. A torch is likely to alter the appearance of the finish permanently, which cannot be repaired.

APPLY VINYL TO AN OLDER, RUSTED OR REPAIRED MOTORCYCLE

All vinyl should be applied to a “like new” motorcycle finish for the best results. We warranty only applies to motorcycles that have an excellent bond of the paint and its finish to the motorcycle substrate. Any rust, bubbling, scratches, dents or other damage will be visible through the film, and such surface imperfections may damage the vinyl or cause the vinyl to fail prematurely. Areas repaired with body filler must be sanded, epoxy primed and for best results, finished with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) paint or clear coat. Any recently applied finish must be cured for the full amount of time recommended by the paint manufacturer before applying film.

DRY APPLICATION METHOD
  • Make sure hands are carefully clean before beginning installation.
  • Never allow one portion of the adhesive side to touch another, unless is wet.
  • Be Certain that all squeegee strokes overlap each other in order to avoid trapped air bubbles.
  • Always install at an enclosed well lit area.
  • Ideal installation temperature: 15-35 degrees Celsius (60-90 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Avoid installing in direct sunlight or in windy conditions.
  • Always be patient. Be sure that you made the correct place adjustments before proceeding
with the installation of the adhesive side of the film to the desired area.
  • Use the heat gun or the hair dryer from a descent distance (15 cm) and with circular motions
start to heat the vinyl and with your fingers just press the vinyl to activate the adhesive.
  • With the heat gun remember if your fingers are burnt then the vinyl will burn also.

Clean the surface with 70% alcohol

Tools You need

  • A soft squeegee or a soft microfiber cloth over a credit card or a squeegee.
  • A 70% alcohol for cleaning the desired installation area.
  • Heat Gun
  • Paper Tape
  • Scissors
WET APPLICATION METHOD
  • Make sure hands are carefully clean before beginning installation.
  • Always wet your fingers before handling the adhesive side of the film. Touching the
adhesive side of the film can cause permanent and visible marks.
  • Keep both sides of the film wet during installation in order to not cause any
    permanent scratches during application.
  • Never allow one portion of the adhesive side to touch another, unless is wet.
  • Always use a soft squeegee or a soft microfiber cloth over a credit card or squeegee
in order to not cause any permanent scratches during application.
  • Do not put too much pressure during the squeegee strokes in order to not cause
    any permanent scratches during application.
  • Be Certain that all squeegee strokes overlap each other in order to avoid trapped
    water bubbles.
  • Always install at an enclosed well lit area.
  • Ideal installation temperature: 15-35 degrees Celsius (60-90 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Avoid installing in direct sunlight or in windy conditions.
  • Always be patient. Remember that as long as the adhesive side is kept wet, you have
all the time you need to make placement adjustments.
  • Use the heat gun or the hair dryer from a descent distance (15cm) and with circular
motions start to heat the vinyl and with your fingers just press the vinyl to activate the
    adhesive.
  • With the heat gun remember if your fingers are burnt then the vinyl will burn also.
